El realismo mágico de Ghadah Al Ajmi en la nueva colección limitada de Anna Cortina

Hoy quiero hablaros de una mujer muy especial, Ghadah Al Ajmi, artista saudita nacida en Riyadh. Ella es quien firma las ilustraciones de la nueva colección exclusiva y limitada Metáforas del Alma de Anna Cortina, con piezas únicas e irrepetibles. Una colección que lleva consigo una gran carga emocional. Os cuento un poco de Ghadah Al Ajmi.

Today I want to tell you about a very special woman, Ghadah Al Ajmi, a Saudi Arabian artist who was born in Riad. She is the author of the illustrations in the new exclusive and limited collection Metáforas del Alma (“Metaphors of the Soul”) by Anna Cortina, with unique and unrepeatable pieces. It’s a collection that is filled with a great emotional feeling. Let me tell you a bit about Ghadah Al Ajmi.

Desde su infancia Ghadah sentía la necesidad de pintar. A pesar de ver y reconocer su potencial, su familia la animó a estudiar. Se sacó la carrera de finanzas dejando de lado el arte, pero no era feliz. Se armó de valentía para retomar su pasión prometiendo a su familia que, si en el plazo de un año no conseguía nada con sus obras (su pintura), lo dejaría definitivamente y se dedicaría en exclusiva a las finanzas. Afortunadamente no fue así.

Since her childhood Ghadah felt the need to paint. Despite seeing and recognising her potential, her family encouraged her to study. She got a degree in Finance leaving art to one side, but she wasn’t happy. She worked up the courage to take up her passion promising her family that, if within the period of a year she didn’t get anywhere with her works of art (her paintings), she would give it up for good and she would work exclusively in finance. Fortunately that didn’t happen.

Ghadah es dulce, delicada y menuda, a la par que fuerte, con ideas y convicciones muy claras. Una mujer luchadora que se está abriendo un hueco en el mundo del arte.

Sus trabajos reflejan sus sentimientos, unos sentimientos que nos hablan de vulnerabilidad y de fuerza, y que la artista nos acerca a través de metáforas pictóricas en las que los órganos humanos junto con animales son los grandes protagonistas. Un realismo mágico.

Ghadah is sweet, delicate and slight, yet strong at the same time, with very clear ideas and convictions. She’s a fighter who is making her mark in the art world.

Her work reflects her feelings, feelings that convey her vulnerability and strength, and that the artist shows us through pictorial metaphors whereby human organs as well as animals are the big stars. A magic realism.

Junto a la firma Anna Cortina han creado una colección de piezas únicas titulada Metáforas del Alma. Bolsos exclusivos e irrepetibles. Piezas únicas. Entre sus obras, el bolso que llevo hoy, The anxiety of finding home. Una jirafa aparentemente normal, pero con los colores inversos porque así se siente la artista. Diferente, silenciada por una sociedad que no la comprende. De ahí la jirafa estrangulando su corazón. Y en el fondo su hogar, lejos, muy lejos. Me fascina el sentimiento. La fragilidad y la fuerza (que comparto) que vive dentro de ella.

Alongside the brand Anna Cortina they have created a collection of unique pieces called Metáforas del Alma (“Metaphors of the Soul”). Exclusive and unrepeatable handbags. Unique pieces. Among her works of art, is the handbag I’m carrying today, The anxiety of finding home. An apparently normal giraffe, but with its colours the other way round because that’s how the artist feels. Different, silenced by a society that doesn’t understand it. From there on the giraffe is being strangled by its heart. In the background is its home, far, far away. The feeling fascinates me. The fragility and strength (that I share) that is inside it.

Otra pieza (bolso) de la colección ilustra un hermoso conejo blanco con una enorme chistera pisoteando un corazón. El conejo representa cómo la sociedad la ve a ella, como un animalito dulce y achuchable, y el corazón humano simboliza sus sentimientos de angustia, rabia, amor, vulnerabilidad y fuerza, ante la mirada limitada (sobre la mujer) de esa sociedad que no la comprende.

Constant effort, Mother nature, etcétera, todos ellos, tributos a la fuerza que tenemos las mujeres y al constante esfuerzo que hacemos para seguir adelante y conseguir nuestros propósitos. Piezas que ya os iré mostrando y de las que hablaremos.

Another piece (a handbag) from the collection depicts a beautiful white rabbit with an enormous top hat stamping on a heart. The rabbit represents how society sees it, like a sweet and cuddly little animal, and the human heart symbolises its feelings of anguish, anger, love, vulnerability and strength, in the face of the limited viewpoint (towards women) in this society that doesn’t understand it.

Constant effort, Mother Nature, etc., all of them are tributes to the strength us women have and the constant effort we make to keep going and achieve our goals. They’re pieces that I will be showing you and we will talk about.

Anna Cortina conoció a Ghadah Al Ajmi en Nueva York y supo ver y apreciar en ella ese diálogo entre la artista y sus obras. El trabajo que han hecho conjuntamente lanza al mundo un mensaje a corazón abierto. Yo me siento representada en muchas de las piezas de la colección porque, a pesar de que cada bolso cuenta una historia determinada, todos ellos hacen referencia a sentimientos encontrados y al esfuerzo constante que hacemos las mujeres para defender y conseguir nuestros derechos y propósitos.

Anna Cortina met Ghadah Al Ajmi in New York and she was able to see and appreciate that dialogue between the artist and her works of art. The work they have done together is launching the message of an open heart to the world. I feel I can relate to many of the pieces in the collection because, in spite of the fact that every handbag tells its own story, all of them refer to feelings conveyed and the constant effort us women make to defend and get our rights and goals.
