Curiosity, our mood, and how we want to express ourselves, in fashion, sometimes churns up diverse styles that coexist very successfully in the same woman.
Dressing oneself in a discrete and subtle way by putting minimalism into practice, does not imply that we cannot be drawn to a shot of colour, a sequin or a vibrant print.
When it comes to jewellery and fashion pieces, it is not a different story. The bipolar nature of our wardrobes extends to the jewellery box. Depending on the season, we can switch from minimalism to maximalism in a click of the fingers. Let’s take a look.
In 2017 the trend went for mixing up different earrings to form unique pairs or even trios; from fringes to bright coloured necklaces, bracelets and earrings, and the new feminism that had been spawn by Maria Grazia Chiuri in Dior, reflected by the ultra romantic and powerful makeover of their pieces of jewellery. In 2018, cascades of crystals, coloured gemstones and round shapes turned fashion jewellery into the ultimate star accessory for designers. In 2019, the vintage look brightened up the collections by Gucci, Paco Rabanne, Elisanetta Franchi…, with extra-long metal earrings with endless crystals, and the XL chains on bracelets and chokers in the purest JW Anderson style became the real stars of basic and simple outfits.
Having just kicked off a new decade, the possibilities in the everyday jewellery box are more and more diverse in terms of looks, materials, gemstones or in functionality. We can adorn ourselves with golden medallions and rings with a rough finish recreating classic images; with multifunctional earrings, pendants or rings that can be worn in different ways; with maxi (or not) chunky chains on necklaces and bracelets; with ear cuffs going for a ‘metal mix’ wearing earrings and piercings on the same ear made from different metals and gemstones without being bothered; with pearl earrings, pendants, bracelets, rings and even hair grips, etc.
Today freedom is blowing in the wind. Today I have chosen pearls, and I’m mixing them up with golden ear cuffs, and with white gold and diamond piercings. In the difference lies beauty.
