There is desire and more desire for a renewed feeling of joy and optimism in fashion. Prints and dazzling colours are flooding the Resort 2022 collections, they are pure dopamine to lift our mood. Yes, dopamine fashion, and the colours we wear directly affect how we feel.
The main colour for the Spring-Summer 2022 season according to the trend agency WGSN and the Coloro colour system is Orchid Pink — “This saturated magenta brings a much-needed sense of positivity and distraction to fashion that brightens up collections, from second-hand clothes to swimsuits.” They are followed by Earthy Indigo, inspired by the ocean’s elements which adds a fun and avant-garde touch to fashion. Olive Oil, with earthy tones, celebrates a return to nature. Luminous orange, its energy is an ode to vitality and eternal optimism, as seen in Pantone’s Orange Ochre. Ocean blue, represented by both Pantone’s Blue Atoll and WGSN’s Atlantic Blue, bring a sense of calm and restoration to whoever is looking at or wearing them. Pantone’s Marigold hue adds a touch of elegance and luxury to any item of clothing or accessory. Watercolour Lilac is a return to nature with a desaturated and timeless garden colour. There’s the deep olive green, watery green? Saturated olive green? Pantone’s Beach Glass shade is here to stay throughout the SS22 season. Next up is dark grey, with minimalism and simplicity not being far behind, especially with Pantone’s Ultimate Grey, which adds a sophisticated tone to the SS22 colour palette.
And, last but not least, butter yellow, very present in the lingerie collections and loungewear clothes. Pantone’s Baby Breath is a lighter alternative that is not only soft, but also represents a minimalist summer aesthetic, while Illuminating Yellow carries the trend towards a feeling with greater liveliness and positivity, like the sweater I’m wearing from Philosophy’s Resort 2022 collection.
They say that yellow is a colour that directly increases dopamine levels and has a very similar effect to working out, and it’s impossible to ignore such benefits. I’m holding on to yellow as one of my favourite shades!
