I read: “Spring 2021 purchases that are a buy it now or always regret it (April 2021 edition).” Headlines such as, “The most necessary dress of the season is the one Kate Moss was constantly wearing in the ’90s”, “This is the comfy style you can’t miss out on in your spring wardrobe”, and so on. I’ve been reading headlines for months that abuse the “you have to”, “you need”… It seems that either we get these garments and accessories, or our outfits notch up points to star in “The wardrobe of oblivion”.
I respect these headlines, but I don’t share them. The message has changed because we have changed. The normality we once knew vanished along with many freedoms, but it also made us stop to look from the outside in, and that’s where common sense brought us back to values, some forgotten ones.
In fashion, quality and time are usually great allies, and my message today, from a long distance: buy it if you fall in love with it and you will be able to give it a thousand wears, or if you will be able to enjoy it for years. Buy it because you feel like it, because you want to, not to feel integrated into the ‘cool’ sheep-like behaviour of the season.
My outfit for today mixes up items of clothing and accessories from several seasons. Only the blazer by Roseanna and the Maison Valentino shoes are from this Spring–Summer 2021. I have opted to check out my staple wardrobe and give new life to my basics.
