From an art-piece sandal created in homage to Cristóbal Balenciaga for the Milan exhibition to a capsule collection: this is how Heritage Bloom by defloresyfloreros was born

The transformation of a museum piece into an artisanal, customisable collection that celebrates emotional and timeless luxury.

Last Monday, December 1st, I attended the presentation of the Heritage Bloom capsule collection by defloresyfloreros at the Bless Hotel in Madrid. Every now and then a creative story, when told from the inside, strikes you more deeply than you expect. That’s exactly what happened to me when I learned how a piece conceived to be admired in silence, inside an exhibition space, can evolve into a real, functional and profoundly emotional design without losing a single trace of its soul.

The seed of this collection was planted in Milan, during the international exhibition Cristóbal Balenciaga | Shoes from Spain Tribute, held in February during Milano Fashion Week. defloresyfloreros was one of only 25 brands selected to take part in this event, the first monographic exhibition dedicated to the Spanish master in Italy. For the occasion, the brand created an art-piece sandal: black silk-velvet, adorned with curled organza roses and velvet leaves, all handmade in the workshops of Mariana Barturen. A delicate yet powerful creation, crafted petal by petal using traditional techniques, and displayed in dialogue with an iconic 1952 mermaid dress from the Museu del Disseny – DHUB Barcelona, photographed by Richard Avedon for the November 1952 issue of Harper’s Bazaar USA. That conversation between heritage and contemporary reinterpretation is precisely what made the piece one of the most talked-about in the exhibition.

From that enthusiasm came something unexpected and beautiful: the decision to transform this unique piece into several wearable designs—ballet flats and sandals—capable of accompanying real steps, real stories, real lives. That is how Heritage Bloom was born, a capsule collection that takes the conceptual strength of the original artwork and translates it into delicate, handcrafted pieces designed for the present. It preserves the almost sculptural aesthetic of the Milan design while adding comfort, balance and a contemporary spirit that makes it fully wearable without losing its extraordinary character.

Heritage Bloom is launched as a limited-edition collection produced entirely in Spain, crafted in very small series to ensure exclusivity and preserve the essence of one-of-a-kind objects. The collection includes three ballet flat designs and three sandal designs. Each piece is adorned with a silk-organza anemone handmade in the workshop of Mariana Barturen. Every flower is shaped petal by petal, adding movement and light to the design. And something I absolutely love: the possibility of choosing between several tones—white, caramel, powder pink and bougainvillea—allowing each pair to be personalised and transformed into something truly unique. It is the first time the brand offers this degree of customisation to its clients. Everything is produced in small batches and entirely in Spain, and each order is delivered within approximately 72 hours. A conscious, artisanal and intimate kind of luxury.

Paloma Moreno, CEO and designer of defloresyfloreros.

Speaking with Paloma Moreno, CEO and designer of defloresyfloreros, made me understand the deeper meaning behind this capsule. “HERITAGE BLOOM was born from a very intense creative emotion,” she told me. “It proves that a piece created to be admired can evolve into a design that is lived in, worn and carried into real stories without losing its soul.” She added something that perfectly sums up the project: “Our goal was not to reproduce the original artwork but to reinterpret it through a contemporary lens, preserving its strength, delicacy and artisanal spirit.”

Perhaps that’s why I loved this collection so much. Because it’s more than a launch: it’s a statement. A reminder that craftsmanship still matters, that a piece can be emotional and timeless at the same time, and that true luxury, when it is honest, is born from detail, time and the hands that bring it to life. Heritage Bloom is exactly that: the natural evolution of a unique artwork into something meant to be lived in. A flower that blossomed first in a museum and now blooms again on the feet of those who value beauty that endures.
