Travelling to other periods in search of creativity is an exercise that designers often put into practice. Every internalised detail serves as a source of inspiration and it can be reinterpreted in a thousand ways depending on who imagined it.
From the England of the 19th century to the catwalks of the 21st century, the Victorian style that is taking over the new season: “iconic black and white outfits, the gothic touches and the high necks with lace…” are calling out for sobriety yet they are inviting us to the excesses of accessories.
Dior, Chanel, Gucci… showcased in their fashion shows numerous looks whereby lace, voluminous sleeves, frills on the necklines and decolletage, country-style linen blouses, etc, were the protagonists. Reinvention and adaptation are the key ingredients.
My choice: The dress which has lacy detailing with little frills on the neck, sleeves and silhouette by the Italian brand Pinko. Yes, back to black for the Victorian style that this color embodies, in a look whereby the accessories are the only pieces that can take on certain modern reinterpretations.
