Knit sweaters take center stage this Fall-Winter 2025 as a true statement of style: chunky textures, earthy tones, and enveloping volumes that celebrate comfort without compromising elegance. We explore the season’s knitwear trends from the runways —and my favorite way to wear them now.
It seems that autumn has finally arrived —which, personally, I love. With it comes the time to bring out one of the most functional and comforting garments to face the cold: the knitted sweater.
This Autumn/Winter 2025 season offers a vision that perfectly blends a pursuit of refined aesthetics with an unapologetic desire for comfort. Sweaters take center stage as pieces of character, capable of setting the tone of a look while simultaneously wrapping it in warmth. The catwalks have reflected this same inclination —between practicality and aesthetic ambition— with collections that establish an emotional palette: earthy tones, tactile textures, and silhouettes that converse with femininity without relinquishing a certain masculine gravitas.
Cardigans make a strong comeback, reinvented with bold patterns —revisited animal prints, jacquards that resemble brushstrokes— and buttons that cease to be mere details to become ornaments in their own right. Argyle sweaters revisit classicism with new proportions and fabrics, while stripes —thin or bold— continue to set the rhythm of modernity. All of this unfolds, effortlessly, under the wide umbrella of oversized knitwear: this autumn, volume is not a whim, but a style strategy. Chunky knits, with their palpable relief, bring the structure and depth the season demands; texture becomes the narrative.
Color sustains that story: chocolate, warm browns, sage green, and above all, beiges with toasted undertones. These are not impersonal neutrals but hues with memory —foundations upon which subtle contrasts emerge: sheer fabrics, lightweight layers, knitted vests— all capable of updating the sweater’s traditional language. The great fashion houses point in this direction: voluminous textures, argyles that converse with modern cuts, stripes that refuse simplicity, and cardigans that claim protagonism by right.
My personal choice unfolds at that intersection between comfort and hybrid elegance. I lean towards an oversized chunky-knit sweater by ROTATE, a piece that fuses ease and aesthetic intention in equal measure. Made of heavy yarn —with generous drape and relaxed shoulders— in a warm, slightly elevated beige, it acts as an enveloping, omnipresent base. The Italian boots by ALEVÍ Milano provide the perfect balance, allowing the look to breathe between genres. That tension —between fluid and structured, ethereal and substantial— is, to me, what makes this ensemble one of the most alluring combinations of the season.
Thus, Autumn 2025 emerges as a season in which knitwear reclaims its soul and expressive intent. The trends —cardigans with stage presence, reimagined argyles, generous volumes, rhythm-giving stripes, and embracing fabrics— are not mere labels but tools for crafting identity. And my preference for chunky oversized knitwear, paired with semi-sheer lightness and ALEVÍ Milano boots, is more than an aesthetic decision: it is a personal manifesto. This season, I want to dress from a serene blend of strength and delicacy —with garments that speak, and allow themselves to be read.
